World Elephant Day - August 12, 2014

Today is World Elephant Day, an effort towards raising awareness and support for keeping the elephants in the wild where they belong.
With ivory poaching on the rise (it is estimated that 20,000 elephants were killed last year), habitats being destroyed the situation is desperate.

For information and ways to help:

So the Elephants March

                   written by Michael Jackson

A curious fact about elephants is this: In order to survive, they mustnt fall down. Every other animal can stumble and get back up again. But an elephant always stands up, even to sleep. If one of the herd slips and falls, it is helpless. It lies on its side, a prisoner of its own weight. Although the other elephants will press close around it in distress and try to lift it up again, there isnt usually much they can do. With slow heaving breaths, the fallen elephant dies. The others stand vigil, then slowly move on.
This is what I learned from nature books, but I wonder if they are right. Isnt there another reason why elephants cant fall down? Perhaps they have decided not to. Not to fall down is their mission. As the wisest and most patient of the animals, they made a pact — I imagine it was eons ago, when the ice ages were ending. Moving in great herds across the face of the earth, the elephants first spied tiny men prowling the tall grasses with their flint spears.
What fear and anger this creature has, the elephants thought. But he is going to inherit the earth. We are wise enough to see that. Let us set an example for him.

Then the elephants put their grizzled heads together and pondered. What kind of example could they show to man? They could show him that their power was much greater than his, for that was certainly true. They could display their anger before him, which was terrible enough to uproot whole forests. Or they could lord it over man through fear, trampling his fields and crushing his huts.
In moments of great frustration, wild elephants will do all of these things, but as a group, putting their heads together, they decided that man would learn best from a kinder message.

Let us show him our reverence for life, they said. And from that day on, elephants have been silent, patient, peaceful creatures. They let men ride them and harness them like slaves. They permit children to laugh at their tricks in the circus, exiled from the great African plains where they once lived as lords.
But the elephants most important message is in their movement. For they know that to live is to move. Dawn after dawn, age after age, the herds march on, one great mass of life that never falls down, an unstoppable force of peace.

Innocent animals, they do not suspect that after all this time, they will fall from a bullet by the thousands. They will lie in the dust, mutilated by our shameless greed. The great males fall first, so that their tusks can be made into trinkets. Then the females fall, so that men may have trophies. The babies run screaming from the smell of their own mothers blood, but it does them no good to run from the guns. Silently, with no one to nurse them, they will die, too, and all their bones bleach in the sun.

In the midst of so much death, the elephants could just give up. All they have to do is drop to the ground. That is enough. They dont need a bullet: Nature has given them the dignity to lie down and find their rest. But they remember their ancient pact and their pledge to us, which is sacred. So the elephants march on, and every tread beats out words in the dust: Watch, learn, love. Watch, learn, love. Can you hear them? One day in shame, the ghosts of ten thousand lords of the plains will say, We do not hate you. Dont you see at last? We were willing to fall, so that you, dear small ones, will never fall again."

From Bliss I came -To Bliss I return...

Are You Listening?

Who am I?
Who are you?
Where did we come from?
Where are we going?
What's it all about?
Do you have the answers?
Immortality's my game
From Bliss I came
In Bliss I am sustained
To Bliss I return
If you don't know it now
It's a shame
Are you listening?
This body of mine
Is a flux of energy
In the river of time
Eons pass, ages come and go
I appear and disappear
Playing hide-and-seek
In the twinkling of an eye
I am the particle
I am the wave
Whirling at lightning speed
I am the fluctuation
That takes the lead
I am the Prince
I am the Knave
I am the doing
That is the deed
I am the galaxy, the void of space
In the Milky Way
I am the craze
I am the thinker, the thinking, the thought
I am the seeker, the seeking, the sought
I am the dewdrop, the sunshine, the storm
I am the phenomenon, the field, the form
I am the desert, the ocean, the sky
I am the Primeval Self
In you and I
Pure unbounded consciousness
Truth, existence, Bliss am I
In infinite expressions I come and go
Playing hide-and-seek
In the twinkling of an eye
But immortality's my game
Eons pass
Deep inside
I remain
Ever the same
From Bliss I came
In Bliss I am sustained
Join me in my dance
Please join me now
If you forget yourself
You'll never know how
This game is played
In the ocean bed of Eternity
Stop this agony of wishing
Play it out
Don't think, don't hesitate
Curving back within yourself
Just create...just create
Immortality's my game
From Bliss I came
In Bliss I'm sustained
To Bliss I return
If you don't know it now
It's a shame
Are you listening?

"See, It's Not About Races..."

The latest headlines regarding (alleged) racial profiling really struck a cord with many people across the world -people are angry, confused, heartbroken at the state of human relations.

Trayvon Martin and Shaima Al – Awadhi aren't the first victims of alleged hate crimes; however, these two cases have reopened and expanded the conversation about race, gender, and cultural differences.
Since the height of the civil rights movement of the 1960's, we have seen many minorities make progress around the world. It is depressing, in the year 2012, we still ask the following question- "How could this happen?!"

I didn't plan on posting anything about these current events,
but I couldn't keep silent. Trayvon, Shaima, and so many others can't speak up for injustice...we must be the voice of unity and love.
With that being said, here is a something I put together: let's keep the conversation going and find ways to make the world a better place.

If you see me in a hoodie,
If you see me with tattoos,

If you see me in a store at midnight,
does this really give you a clue?

If you see my hair in locks,
do I seem unambitious?
If you see me in Timberland boots...
do I come off suspicious!?

If you see me, you should a reflection:
I'm a dreamer,
I'm a fighter,
I want love and affection.

Look at the reflection, the "Man in the Mirror"-
if you see me looking back at you, the message will get clearer.

So if you see me in a hoodie,
see yourself in a hoodie, too.
If you see me for who I am,
I will see you for you.

Children´s Day - August 22, 2011: The Value of Childhood...

A childhood  is value and valued. If it is filled with playing and magic, it has considerable positive influence on the development of the entire life. A neglected childhood may not be rescheduled at a later date. Unfortunately, there are millions of children worldwide who are growing up in the vicious circle of poverty and thus cheated of their childhood - but that's another topic.

Also a lot of children living in a so-called affluent societies have extremely difficult childhood experiences.  Parents want their children to have better carreer abilities than they had themselves. This sometimes let them forget about the other needs (such as internal skills) of the little ones. Children have human needs - but they also have additional needs unique to their particular situation. For most parents, children's play is just that — diversion or entertainment. But playing is much more and can help children develop social skills, physical strength, language skills, self-esteem, and more. Watching a child playing you become eye- (and ear-) witness of many really magical scenes! It is a profound responsibility of parents and carers to provide for  all these needs.

'I remember going to the record studio and there was a park across the street and I'd see all the children playing and I would cry because it would make me sad that I would have to work instead' ~Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson, who literally grew up on stage, wrote a very impressing song about this very topic. He described "Have You Seen My Childhood" as the most intimately personal and autobiographical of his career.

Music producer Bruce Swedien worked with Michael Jackson to record that song.
He spoke with CNN's Don Lemon about the experience.

Bruce Sweden speaking to CNN´s Don Lemon about working with MJ

"Have you seen my childhood"  was used in the film "Free Willy".

The poignant lyrics provide insight into  Michael Jackson´s life, which -in parts- was sad and also had painful aspects. Several lines are particularly heartwrenching.
In his pleas for understanding, he reveals self-awareness of how his life was pointed out to the public to be peculiar and eccentric du to his attempts to regain his childhood. Thrust into performing and a public life practically since birth, his life really was devoid of a childhood. He was formed, admired, then ridiculed by the media. He lost so much without anyone or anyplace in which to find shelter from the world...

Lyrics: "Childhood"

Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for the world that I come from
'Cause I've been looking around
In the lost and found of my heart...
No one understands me
They view it as such strange eccentricities...
'Cause I keep kidding around
Like a child, but pardon me...

People say I'm not okay
'Cause I love such elementary things...
It's been my fate to compensate,
for the Childhood
I've never known...

Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for that wonder in my youth
Like pirates in adventurous dreams,
Of conquest and kings on the throne...

Before you judge me, try hard to love me,
Look within your heart then ask,
Have you seen my Childhood?

People say I'm strange that way
'Cause I love such elementary things,
It's been my fate to compensate,
for the Childhood I've never known...

Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for that wonder in my youth
Like fantastical stories to share
The dreams I would dare, watch me fly...

Before you judge me, try hard to love me.
The painful youth I've had

Have you seen my Childhood...
(~ Michael Jackson)

Michael Jackson - Planet Earth

Planet Earth, my home, my place
A capricious anomaly in the sea of space
Planet Earth are you just
Floating by, a cloud of dust
A minor globe, about to bust
A piece of metal bound to rust
A speck of matter in a mindless void
A lonely spaceship, a large asteroid

Cold as a rock without a hue
Held together with a bit of glue
Something tells me this isn't true
You are my sweetheart soft and blue
Do you care, have you a part
In the deepest emotions of my own heart
Tender with breezes caressing and whole
Alive with music, haunting my soul.

In my veins I've felt the mystery
Of corridors of time, books of history
Life songs of ages throbbing in my blood
Have danced the rhythm of the tide and flood
Your misty clouds, your electric storm
Were turbulent tempests in my own form
I've licked the salt, the bitter, the sweet
Of every encounter, of passion, of heat
Your riotous color, your fragrance, your taste
Have thrilled my senses beyond all haste
In your beauty, I've known the how
Of timeless bliss, this moment of now

Planet Earth are you just
Floating by, a cloud of dust
A minor globe, about to bust
A piece of metal bound to rust
A speck of matter in a mindless void
A lonely spaceship, a large asteroid
Cold as a rock without a hue
Held together with a bit of glue
Something tells me this isn't true
You are my sweetheart gentle and blue
Do you care, have you a part
In the deepest emotions of my own heart
Tender with breezes caressing and whole
Alive with music, haunting my soul.

Planet Earth, gentle and blue
With all my heart, I love you.

I stopped to talk, you had to listen.

I stopped to talk, you had to listen.

So who you're asking? Volume's increase.
All just a thriller - you want to be me?

A whisper of love. Blurring my mind.
The flower of laughter somewhere in sight.

Crucify. A lullaby. Shameful cry.
My head held high.

You call it justice. Is this the truth?
A soul of desire. Fading in doom.

Calling a number. Who's on the line?
9/11 - remember the time?

So who you're asking? When lips are sealed.
A man of wisdom, trying to heal.

If time's an illusion, so is the truth?
You're crying my tears. I'm bad. Who are you?

Am I gone? Where were you?

I am behind you, faithful and true.

Lyrics blog: On The Line - Michael Jackson

This is a new series of irregular blog entries that focus on the depth of Michael's lyrics. As much as they speak for themselves they deserve thorough attention everytime you listen.

Michael shared his wisdom in his lyrics and in combination with the music and his voice, a song becomes a universe.

My song of today is "On The Line". It is written by MJ (unlike stated in the "Ghosts" single*) and produced by Babyface and opened Spike Lee’s 1996 movie "Get on the Bus" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWmvleHLIaM). It was left off of the official soundtrack because of a label dispute, but you can buy the song on MJ's Ultimate Collection, which was released in 2004.

"On The Line" to me is part of Michael's many "affirmative" songs. His main message is encouragement. The kind of encouragement that we all need in our lives. It reaches you exactly at the point where you stand. Michael has this uncomparable ability to lift your spirits but includes a reminder that nothing comes for free. Whatever it is, it might not be easy and you might have to try harder. But the price is endless.

"Hard times just don't go away." How many of us have had this thought? Complaining and wallowing in self-pity is sucking you into a vicious circle of negativity ("that chip on your shoulder").

"It's time you open up, Have some faith" indicates change. Change of mind, change of thought. Collecting strength from believing.

"Don't you think it's time you go for a change?" Well, yeah. We want the negativity to go away. We want to like what we see in the mirror. Thank you Michael for reminding us, that the (wo)man in the mirror is the only one that can make a change to their very own situation! No more complaining, no more blaming situations, others... Me? YES!

"Gotta put your heart on the line, If you wanna make it right. You've got to reach out and try!" Ok, I hear you. The change needs my own input. And my energy, it isn't for free. But I am in the driver's seat.

"If you wanna do it now, You gotta learn to try. You can make it right somehow!" Ok, trial. There might be error but trying is a requirement for change. And "YES, you can!". Can I?

"Let love come free and that's just so easy now." So easy? Really Michael? It didn't seem that easy while I was busy complaining. But I forgot about the love... oh.

"You gotta go for what you want, You gotta do what you got to do" Oh dear, YES!!! I want! I want a change. I want to make it right! So, why waiting? Hesitation? Compromise? No! Go for what you want!

"Don't waste your time on the past, no, no
It's time you look to the future
It's all right there if you ask
This time if you try much harder
You'll be the best that you can be!"

YES, I will. Thank you Michael for guiding me through!!!

Michael Jackson - On The Line

No sense pretending its over
Hard times just don't go away
You gotta take that chip off your shoulder
It's time you open up
Have some faith

Nothing good ever comes easy
All good things come in due time
Yes it does
You gotta have something to believe in
I'm telling you to open your mind

Gotta put your heart on the line
If you wanna make it right
You've got to reach out and try
Gotta put your heart on the line
If you wanna make it right
Gotta put it all on the line

You see yourself in the mirror
And you don't like what you see
And things aren't getting much clearer
Don't you think it's time you go for a change

Don't waste your time on the past, no, no
It's time you look to the future
It's all right there if you ask
This time if you try much harder
You'll be the best that you can be

Gotta put your heart on the line
If you wanna make it right
You've got to reach out and try
Gotta put your heart on the line
If you wanna make it right

If you wanna do it now
You gotta learn to try
You can make it right somehow
Let love come free
And that's just so easy now
You gotta go for what you want
You gotta do what you got to do

Gotta put your heart on the line
If you wanna make it right
You've got to reach out and try
Gotta put your heart on the line
If you wanna make it right

[Repeat and fade out]
