Toy Story: The Richest Children Are Most Possesive

The italian photographer Gabriele Galimberti shares a beautiful essay on the internet, showing that kids from all over the planet love the same things. Paging through his thought provoking photos and words and introducing them to our friends and visitors on this blog was beyond question.

Though the toys of the children are reflective of their material prosperity and the parent´s economis status each child is born to. The toys tell much more about those who bought them than they can tell about the children who cherish them as their possesion.

All they want to do is playing.

The fact, that it is finally essential for children to play, should be a lesson, what we as adults all over the world already should have learned.
We have to give our the children the time and space they need instead of picking them up after school and drive them to organized freetime activities. Children have so much creativity that playing is not that much a question of material things (kids love stuffed animals, toy cars and dolls, and electronic games as well, though). Playing is a matter of  internal and external conditions and we should work harder to encourage children to devolop creativity and self-determined estivated time. Children do not suffer the lack of perfect produced industrial toys since they their imagination is strong enough to play with a rag doll instead of a "Barbie", to imagine a pebble stone becoming a racing car, or to go in rags and playing to be a most beautifully dressed princess. One more time children teach us: less can be more...

Before the shooting while they arraged the toys, G. Galimberti did note, that it seems to differ from county to country how the children play. Children in richer countries are more possesive with their toys and did not allow him spontanously to play with their toys. The children from poorer countries were found easier to interact and to share their possesions.

Page through a few of our favorites from the series after the jump, and make sure to head over to Gabriele Galimberti’s website  to see and read more.

Abel - Nopaltepec, Mexico
"Abel, the third of five children, was born and raised in the small town of Nopaltepec, about an hour southeast of Mexico City. In this photo he’s posing with all of his games. He loves to race with his toy cars, and sometimes plays with them with his younger sister."

Bethsaida - Port au Prince, Haiti
"Bethsaida was born in Port-au-Prince where she has always lived in a house with her family since, almost 2 years ago, a big earthquake distroyed it. Her parents are both deaf and dumb but fortunately she’s not. Now they live in a camp site out of the city. The camp was built from an american NGO which works with deaf and dumbs, so in the camps almost 90% of the people can’t hear and talk. All the toys that Bethsaida has are donated from the NGO. She wants to be a hairdresser and loves combing her doll to practice, but unfortunately her brother has cut off half of the hair of the doll."

Li Yi Chen - Shenyang, China
"Li Yi was born in Shenyang, a big city in the north part of China. He lives with his parents and his grandmother in a small appartment in the south suburb of the city. His favourite toys are the guns. He loves to put little boxes above the table and then i likes to shoot at them rubbers bullets with the gun. He also love to play with the YoYo because his favourite character of cartoon uses the YoYo like a weapon.

 Botlhe - Maun, Botswana
"Botlhe has a lot of friends, and all of them live really close by to the small house where she lives with her family in a residential complex. In the complex, there is one toilet for every four families. Botlhe has only one toy, the monkey, but she almost never plays with it because she prefers to go out with friends and play with them."

 "Naya - Managua, Nicaragua
has few small cook tools but she never gets bored to play with them. She uses mud and grass from the garden to pretend to cook some cakes for her older sister. She says that in the future she will manage a restaurant and she’s sure that turists will love it!"

 Allenah - El Nido, Philippines
"Allenah Lajallab was born and raised in El Nido, a small town north of Palawan in the Philippines. In El Nido there weren’t hospitals and she was born at home. She has a lot of stuffed animals, and her favorite is the orange one because she loves the color. She doesn’t like the white stuffed animal as much, because it gets dirty too easily."

                                                  Chiwa - Mchinji, Malawi
"Chiwa lives in a small hut with her mother, father and sister. They don’t have electricity and running water. Chiwa used to help her mother to carry water at home from the river. In the village there are other 50 children (more or less) and they always plays all together outside. Chiwa has just 3 toys that some volonteers of an NGO gave to her when she was born. Her favourite is the dinosaurus because she says that he can protect her from the dangerous animals."

Arafa & Aisha - Bububu, Zanzibar
Arafa and Aisha are twins. They sleep in the same bed, have the same clothes, go to school together and share the same toys. Cun Zi Yi - Chongqing, China
"Cun Zi Yi just turned 3, and received a lot of gifts for her birthday. She plays with everything and can’t choose her favorite toy. Her parents say that she’s really good at painting, and will be an artist when she grows up."

                                                 Pavel - Kiev, Ukraine
"Pavel doesn’t have any doubts: he wants to be a police man. He loves guns and plays with them all the time. His younger brother is always under “Pavel’s arrest.” Pavel handcuffs him, questions him and accuses him of stealing cars. Sometimes he lets his brother be the police man, but only when other friends come over and become the “bad people” Pavel wants to arrest!"

G. Galimberti experiences show what most of us might have discovered in our own lifes: most of the people tend to become  less giving the more they posess. This result is a strong task for putting love first instead of material things. ( Though Pavel doesn´t seem to grow up in poverty, I am much more worried about his mental well being than about Botlhe´s  from Botswana.) Let´s take care about our children with more love, giving them much more time and  patience instead of showering them with  industrial produced presents.
Remember....what are your most cherished moments in your childhood?

In kindergarden and at home we arranged a toy abstinence for 3 or 4  weeks once a year. All the toys became cased and stored on the garrett. The only things at the children´s disposal were drawing paper, colored crayons, and picture books. Outside they could play in the sand box and everything the garden offers. (Did you ever experience what a great playground a puddle can be?)
The first time on "toy diet" was always hard, because creativity seems to vanish the more toys are at one´s disposal. But after some time playing with self created stuff became more and more fun. After weeks the unpacking of the old stored toys brought kind of christmas feeling every weekend when we got a parcel from the garrett.

Thank you very much for your work, Mr. Galimberti.
Your work set the ball rolling...

International Women's Day - March 8th, 2013

"I think we’re at a time where people just want to join together and cause change. People don't want to live like this any more"
Charlize Theron, UN Messenger of Peace

Violence at the hands of individuals or state, at home or in the communities, when peace or war still holds women hostages and impact the way society shapes up. It impacts the well being and development of our children and affects the economical and political realities of nations.
From being second rank citizens, to being denied access to education, to being forced into labor, to being victims of human trafficking, from being forced to flea their homes and become refugees, to poverty, to being victims of rape and other forms of abuse the issues regarding women rights and quality of life around the world are very diverse and go beyond of just being about women.

But what is most amazing are the stories of strength and resilience.
Both from victims and people working to help them.

It about time we all come together and end the dark ages.

"Joy"

To our sons an daughters, nieces and nephews.
And the expecting parents R and F, and their beautiful daughter.

'Joy' is a song that appears on Teddy Riley's group, Blackstreet, first album and was released as a single in March 1995. It peaked at 12 on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Singles and Tracks but chart position is not what matters about this song.
The melody is written by Michael Jackson, lyrics by Tammy Lucas , and was considered for a while to be included on Michael's "Dangerous" album. It was It was released together with 5 other versions - Uptown Joy that samples Michael's song "I Can't Help It", Cool Joy and Quiet Storm that feature saxophonist Mike Phillips, New Carnegie Mix which was arranged for strings and conducted by Jeremy Lubbock , with  Mark Portmann on keyboards and  Bruce Dukov on violin. All wrapped up by the amazing producing and mixing of  Teddy Riley.
The vocals that made people to think of Michael are a masterpiece of then Black street member, Levi Little.

The end result is powerful and gentle at the same time. And though it came together with the borrowed talent from so many artists it shows no signs of being blend. On the contrary - there are no stitches, no patches.

For few years now this song changed meaning for me and it become more than just a beautiful piece of music. Every time I listen to it reminds me to say thank you to the beautiful souls that make my life be filled with joy, either they are close or far. Your love and wisdom are an inspiration.

Can't forget the day
That you walked into my life
It was just the kind of thing
That was so right on time
After all the love changes
My heart had locked the door
Then that girl released her magic
And made me love once more, ooh

Like the warm rays of the sun
Her sweet love came shining down on me, oh
All at once turned my life around
And with one kiss, she set me free

[1] She's given me joy, joy, joy
That girl, she brings me joy
She's given me joy, joy, joy
That girl, she brings me joy

Goodbye lonliness
And so long to my heartache
Now that joy has taken over
And decided to stay

Her love lifts me up
Like no other love before
With every beat of my heart
I'm hold, holding on, hey

Just look what she's done for me
She's erased all the sadness away, oh
I can never repay the deed
Cuz she keeps loving me more and more

[1] She's given me joy, joy, joy
That girl, she brings me joy
She's given me joy, joy, joy
She brings me joy

She's given me

Check one, check two
Can't hold back, I'm in love with you
Check one, check two
There's nothing in the world that I won't do for you

Check one check two
Can't hold back, I'm in love with you
Check one check two
There's nothing in the world that I won't do for you

That girl
She's given me joy, joy, joy
I love the way she loves me
She brings me joy
She's given me joy joy joy
A little bit of lovin' darlin'

Said I love it baby (Joy joy joy)
Oh girl, I love the joy she brings me (Joy joy joy)
She brings me joy, she brings me joy
Said I love it when you're loving me baby (Joy joy joy)
Oh girl, ya get me where you want me, baby (Joy joy joy)
Yeah, girl you're my joy (Joy)

Check one check two
Can't hold back, I'm in love with you
(Girl you're my joy)
Check one check two
There's nothing in the world that I won't do for you
(All my kissin')
Check one check two
Can't hold back, I'm in love with you
(All my lovin')
Check one check two
There's nothing in the world that I won't do for you

Girl you're my joy

February Children´s Day - Poem: Where Do The Children Grow...

Today I just wanted to post a little reminder to watch and fully enjoy how (y)our children grow. Childhood passes extremely fast and we can´t bring back past days or precious hours into present. The more we watch  and  treasure how children grow, the more we will enjoy trips down memory lane....

When you see a smiling face
Their happiness all over the place
Singing, laughing, cries of glee,
Come they say, Play with me
The slide, the swing, the monkey bars.
Look at them close to see who they are.
Lots of races, Ready, Set, Go.
This is how the children grow.

If you watch them everyday
You'll see they learn as they play
They'll do what they see, and say what they hear.
You're their teacher though out the years.
Their ideas and thoughts in their eyes shine.
Imagination is a glimpse of their mind
When you’re not looking, don't you know
This is when the children grow.

Watch them as they learn to walk
Listen to them when they talk
Keep them safe, away from harm
Wrap them gently within your arms
Teach them to share and how to take turns.
Set good examples from which they will learn.
At home, at school, wherever they go
This is where the children grow.

Children's Day January 22nd, 2013 : Be Not Always

The beginning of the year renews our hopes, has us list resolutions, what we have achieved and redesign our plans in order to reach the goals we set. World just seams brighter and possibilities multiplied, time and space seam to widen up. For some of us.
For many even the next day is distant and for it to exist depends on brutal arbitrary actions and a narrow possibility to receive help.
Thinking about today and what to choose for our team's post for our Children's Day, this song came into my head - "Be Not Always". The song is written by Michael and Marlon Jackson and appeared on The Jacksons' album Victory.
It might seam dark but I though of it in the context of New Year's resolutions.
Aristotle said that the "whole is greater that the sum of its parts", or if you prefer, as Kurt Koffka said "the whole is other than the sum of its parts". So our individual or collective actions won't get us any time soon to solving the problems but keeping the efforts up and continuing to use the resources we have available in trying to help those who need it, at home or overseas, will make a difference.
I hope for more but for now I think the message in the song might be a realistic goal.

"Be Not Always"
by Michael Jackson, Marlon Jackson

Always, be not always
And if always
Bow our heads in shame
Always, please be not always
And if always
Bow our heads in blame
'Cause time has made promises
Just promises

Faces, did you see their faces
Did they touch you
Have you felt such pain
To have nothing
To dream something
Then lose hoping
Is not life but lame
But time has made promises
Just promises

Mothers cry, babies die
Helplessly in arms
While rockets fly
And research lies
In progress to become
But what of men
Of flesh and blood
We turn our backs on life
How can we claim to stand for peace
When the races are in strife
Destroying life

Always, be not always
But if always
Bow our heads in shame
Always, please, please be not always
'Cause if always
Bow our heads in blame
'Cause time, time has made promises
Death promises

From Bliss I came -To Bliss I return...

Are You Listening?

Who am I?
Who are you?
Where did we come from?
Where are we going?
What's it all about?
Do you have the answers?
Immortality's my game
From Bliss I came
In Bliss I am sustained
To Bliss I return
If you don't know it now
It's a shame
Are you listening?
This body of mine
Is a flux of energy
In the river of time
Eons pass, ages come and go
I appear and disappear
Playing hide-and-seek
In the twinkling of an eye
I am the particle
I am the wave
Whirling at lightning speed
I am the fluctuation
That takes the lead
I am the Prince
I am the Knave
I am the doing
That is the deed
I am the galaxy, the void of space
In the Milky Way
I am the craze
I am the thinker, the thinking, the thought
I am the seeker, the seeking, the sought
I am the dewdrop, the sunshine, the storm
I am the phenomenon, the field, the form
I am the desert, the ocean, the sky
I am the Primeval Self
In you and I
Pure unbounded consciousness
Truth, existence, Bliss am I
In infinite expressions I come and go
Playing hide-and-seek
In the twinkling of an eye
But immortality's my game
Eons pass
Deep inside
I remain
Ever the same
From Bliss I came
In Bliss I am sustained
Join me in my dance
Please join me now
If you forget yourself
You'll never know how
This game is played
In the ocean bed of Eternity
Stop this agony of wishing
Play it out
Don't think, don't hesitate
Curving back within yourself
Just create...just create
Immortality's my game
From Bliss I came
In Bliss I'm sustained
To Bliss I return
If you don't know it now
It's a shame
Are you listening?

A Christmas Story

Story of A Little Lisle

A small lisle was very concerned that it was not sufficient, the way it was .

I am too weak for a rope ", it told itself, "and I am too short to become woven to a sweater. I can´t get  tied to others. Pale and colorless as I am I am useless  for embroidery. Oh, if I was made of Lurex, I could decorate a stole or a dress. But I am simply not enough for anything.  Nobody needs me. Nobody likes me - and  at least I can´t like myself. "

While the small lisle played sad music and felt quite dejected in its self-pity, a small pat of wax ran through the cold night, full of desperation.

I am way too small for a big Christmas Candle - and I can´t  warm up anyone.  Pale and colorless as I am, I´m not suitable to decorate a big candle. Oh, what shall I do now? "

When the pat of wax came along the lisle´s house, it knocked at the door, because it was freezing to death.

Seeing the downcasted small lisle,  the wax had an idea and said eagerly:

“Don´t give up yourself. I've got an idea: Let´s stick together. You and me are too short and don´t have enough wax for a big Christmas candle but we are good enough for a small candle."

And so the two got together and were happy.

Let us never give up to try to kindle a light instead of complaining about the darkness...

Christmas is that time of the year to remember family and friends in gratitude for all the light and warmth they have brought into our lifes all over the year. Their love is a reflection of the Lord´s  neverending love for all of us and reminds us to keep the faith and to go on to spread love.

Merry Christmas
to you and your family.

Thank you for your support
and the L.O.V.E YOU put into the world.

A Moment of Silence To The Fallen Children

The 22nd of every month we celebrate Children's Day on this blog. The December post usually is Christmas-related. However, this year the celebration of love indeed  is worldwide overshadowed by the massacre at Elementary Hook school in Newtown.

neighborhood 15 December 2012; Photograph: Richard Adams

Our Webteam won´t comment on this tragedy which broke so many hearts  in this small town in Connecticut. We are far away from expressing political demands or consequenzes at this point, because that´s not our job - this is something everyone has to decide for himself.

First of all the it´s-all-for-LOVE-webteam wants to extend our most sincere condolences and prayers to all those families affected by the devasting events in Newtown at Sandy Hook, Elementary School.
Our second intent is that we want the victims to be remembered.
We want them remembered not as  numbers - but as unique, beautiful persons with names and faces, who loved their families and who will be always loved by them.
They will sometimes be present in the dreams, but they will always be kept alive in fond memories of their family and friends, because they have a place in their heart of hearts.
For all of us who never had the chance to meet one of the victims in person their death should be a reminder of how  absolutely essential it has become to stop war, hate and violence and that it is finally a matter of survive to chase wisdom, give love, promote peace and demonstrate compassion. (And at this point this sad post gets the "MJ-touch": Remember Michael Jackson's message ...)

Please take a moment of silence and join us in remembering the victims and their families.

The names follow the list  of names of the dead provided by the Connecticut state police, which does not include the name of the shooter, nor his mother. Since we do not intent to become the shooter fame, we don´t mention him. We want to leave his family at the Mercy of the Lord.

Edit: After I finished this post I found that our fried Raven wrote an excellent article in making an analogy between Michael´s message  and the Sandy Hook tragedy.Take some time for reading - it´s simply brilliant.
